After a half-decade of tweaking and reinventing, and another six years of intense R and D, Blue Line Signature Tyer Eric Orams presents the Brain Damage – possibly the fly fishing industry’s first true large, articulated JIGGING streamer.
After realizing most heavy streamers moved horizontally or side-to-side when jigged, Eric sought to create the first true articulated jigging streamer. It took years and countless hours fished, but six years ago, he cracked the code.
With slim materials and a head so heavy it’s a depth charge, the Brain Damage is a true vertical jigging streamer as it plummets straight down the moment it touches the water. Cast it toward a cutbank, mend upstream, and hang it directly off the strike zone for up to 30 feet while initiating enticing actions up and down. This technique, which Eric specifically uses the Brain Damage to perform, is what he calls “the bank robber.”
For rivers, use this anchor fly on a floating line on a seven- or eight-weight, for a sink tip causes it to instantly sink to the bottom. Be warned: it’s called the Brain Damage for a reason – it’s as heavy as a kettlebell, and smack to the back of the head may leave the angler dazed and concussed. Don’t overlook this for bass fishing. It’s a phenomenal jigging fly for smallmouth and largemouth, and can be fishing with a sink tip or sinking line on your favorite bass lake’s deep points and structures.
You NEED a very stiff rod for this. A few 6's on the market can handle it but really a 7+ is recommended and even then, an 8 is ideal.
